A Pint Tulip Export Mug by Townsend & Compton - SOLD

This pint tulip form Export Mug was made by the firm of Townsend & Compton, John Townsend and Thomas Compton, his son-in-law.

The firm operated in London from around 1784 to around 1806. This firm set untold numbers of items to the United States. The quality of their work was excellent as was the metal they used in their product.

This mug is in very good plus condition. It is well marked on the inside bottom. There is a "WR" excise mark struck to the left of the handle. Note that the scrape marks are still present on the handle.

This piece measures 4 3/4" tall to the lip of the body.
