A Mint Condition Samuel Pierce Pewter Plate - SOLD

A Mint condition 8” Pewter Plate by Samuel Pierce, Greenfield, Massachusetts, 1792-1830 a rare survival. To find a plate that is virtually unused by this maker is truly remarkable. Just from being placed on a table or other surface the backs of plate usually have some scuff marks, there are nearly none on this piece. All the lathe turning marks show clearly. Historic Deerfield is in possession of the die that struck this touch as well as some of the tools and molds used by Pierce.

The two small size Pierce Eagle touches are mint as struck. Whoever adds this plate to their collection will never have to upgrade from this example.
