A Quart Pewter Export Tankard by Townsend & Compton
Quart Export Pewter Taper-Sided Tankard by Townsend & Compton. Townsend and Compton were the partnership between John Townsend and his son-in-law Thomas Compton.
The firm was in operation from 1784-1802. During this time, they made major exports of their products to the United States. The forms they made include plates dishes basins mugs tankards teapots as well as others.
The quality of their metal and workmanship are amongst the very best. It should also be noted that they changed the designs of their products to keep up with the latest fashion. This Tankard is in very fine condition and only has a very slight etch line on the upper inside of the body. Otherwise the interior is nearly in new condition. The tankard measures 7 ¼” to the top of the lid.
