A Quart and One Half Water Pitcher by Boardman & Hart - SOLD

This quart and a half water pitcher was made by the firm of Boardman & Hart. The partners Thomas D. Boardman and Lucius Hart produced pewter under this firm from 1828-1853.

Although marked New York, this piece, as is the case with all Boardman pewter, was manufactured in Hartford, Connecticut.

The metal used by the Boardmans was of a very high quality. As is typical the quality of manufacture was first rate. This water pitcher has a very nice heft to it.
The water pitcher measures high to the lip of the body. The metal is in near fine condition with a few sporadic pits on the interior. The lower back of the handle has been slightly depressed from use.

Water Pitchers typically show heavy use as they were a useful form, this one saw use but not abuse. Often these have heavy pitting on the inside as this form seems to be a favorite for persons to put fresh flowers with water in. That habit literally destroys the pewter due to chemicals in the plants. Note the pronounced chatter marks on the bottom.
