An Unmarked Flower Handle Porringer Attributed to the Shop of David Melville - SOLD

An Unmarked Flower Handle Porringer Attributed to the Shop of David Melville

An unmarked flower handled porringer attributed with confidence to the shop of David Melville 1776-1793. This piece has a very distinctive shaped bowl as well as the design of the handle. The bowl casting is very heavy and of fine quality metal. There a pronounced “chatter” marks on the boss and back of the bowl, indicating vibrations in the lathe while the pewterer was finishing the bowl. This piece has a strong linen mark.

This example is in fine condition. The bowl measures 5” in diameter.
