A Super Condition American Pewter Plate by Richard Austin - SOLD

A Super Condition American Pewter Plate by Richard Austin

Richard Austin worked in Boston from 1792-1817. Austin’s touch incorporates the “lamb and dove” motif and is strikingly similar to one of the touchmarks of Townsend and Compton who were major exporters to America.

This plate measures 7 9/16” in diameter. This size is not encountered as frequently as his larger sizes of plates. The plate is in very fine condition and appears to be unused. The back of the plate clearly shows the lathe marks and the edges where one normally sees “scuffing” of the metal is nearly blemish free. The touch is beautifully struck.

A very fine example of Austin’s work hard to improve upon.
