An Antique American Unmarked Robert Bonynge Pewter Quart Strap Handled Mug - SOLD
This Taper-Sided Quart Pewter Strap Handled Boston mug was made in the molds used by Robert Bonynge working 1731-1763. Marked examples exist and are very scarce, so too are unmarked ones.
The mug measures 6 1/8" tall to the lip of the body. The handle is "burned" on meaning it is cast in place in the same manner as a porringer handle. There are "linen" marks on the inside of the body at the upper and lower handle junctions.
The exterior of the mug is in outstanding condition with lathe marks still clearly visible on the surface. The handle shows all the scrape finish marks on the back of the handle and top of the thumb rest. The interior has some pitting. Overall this is the finest example of a mug from this set of molds we have ever had.
