A Scarce Flower Handled Basin Bowl Porringer by Richard Lee - SOLD

A Scarce Flower Handled Basin Bowl Porringer by Richard Lee

This porringer is the first of it's type we have ever had, in fine condition with a very fine example of the fleur-de-lis touchmark used by the Lees.

The basin bowl measures 5 7/8" and the overall length is 8 1/8". This "flower" handle (or ear) design is unique to the Lees. Note the top of the handle. It is in fact a Masonic design of the Compass. This gives the handle a distinct "lift".

Richard Lee Sr. is known to have lived in Grafton, NH; Ashfield, MA; and Springfield, VT. He had done some land speculation in Springfield. He returned there in 1802. He died in 1823 and is buried there.

Richard Jr. moved to Springfield, VT sometime prior to 1795 married and set up business as a pewterer and brass maker. He disappears from the tax roles in 1816. This item dates c-1795-1816

A fine and truly scarce New England porringer. A great addition to any collection.
