A Rare Unmarked Melville Rhode Island Tab Handle Porringer - SOLD
This porringer was made from the molds used by David Melville, Newport Rhode Island, 1755-93, Although unmarked this is undoubtedly a product of his shop. Measuring 5 1/2" in diameter.
The metal is in very good to near fine condition. There is an interesting manufacturing defect on the underside of the boss. Note how the turning tool "bounced" over this area.
Porringers of this type are quite scarce. In the past 42 years we have only had three others. This will be a nice addition to a New England collection. The upper portion of the bowl is quite thick and this is evident by the fact that only a small amount of metal melted all the way through leaving only a slight linen mark on the left side in the picture. (ON HOLD)
We are only open by appointment. tel (860) 267-2146 Please call between 9:00 AM-8:00 PM EST
