A Scarce 1/2 Pint Export Pewter Tankard by Townsend & Compton - SOLD
The firm of Townsend and Compton was in operation in London from 1784-1806, being the partnership of John Townsend and his son-in-law Thomas Compton, the firm had a very lucrative export business to America. This 1/2 Pint taper-sided tankard is an example of this partnership.
Measuring just a mere 4 1/2" tall to the top of the thumbpiece. This diminutive piece is a most scarce form for collectors to acquire. In the past 42 years we have only had three other 1/2 pint tankards. They are few and far between.
This example is in very good condition with a well struck touchmark to the left of the double "C" handle. As scarce item not likely to be available again for some time.
