This pewterer's turning tool was found in Rhode Island and dates from the 18th century. The method for manufacturing pewterer's tools changed in the 19th century with the blade being held on with the use of a single metal ring around the wood handle clamping the blade tightly by compressing the wood.
This has pewter cast into groves cut around the handle. The pewter flowed around the inset blade holding it firmly in place. 17 1/2" long
