One of the Finest Connecticut Pewter Pint Mugs Extant - SOLD
This pewter pint mug with high fillet is the product of the shop of Samuel Danforth of Hartford, Connecticut working from 1795-1814.
This mug exhibits the "New York" influence brought by Frederick Bassett when he moved to Hartford during the American Revolution. This "high fillet" was the style used by many New York Pewterers.
This mug is pictured in John Carl Thomas' book Connecticut Pewter and Pewterers on page 28. Mr. Thomas stated that he felt this was the finest Connecticut mug extant and known at the time of the publication of his book.
This mug is from my father's (Wendell Hilt) collection and was the center piece of the collection. The mug is in fine condition with some interior perosity. Marked on the inside bottom in the manner of 18th century pewterers. 4 3/4" tall to the lip of the body. A truly scarce item worthy of a serious collection.
