Robert Palethorp, Jr. worked in Philadelphia from 1817-1822 producing a variety of flatware including plates and basins and hollowware including mugs, tankards, and infusion mugs.
Palethorp's forms are 18th century in design. His mugs have bold lines and strongly designed handles as seen with this example. The handle is quite broad across the back portion.
His tankards are closely related to those by the"Love" group and Parks Boyd.
This mug is in very good condition with a near fine touchmark. The bold turnings are still very apparent on the underside of the base. The touch is struck on the inside bottom in the 18th century manner.
The mug measures 5 11/16" tall.
