Jones’ shop produced pewter from 1774 through 1809. Mugs are quite uncommon. Jacobs lists Quart mugs found with both strap handles and hollow cast handles. The marked examples are mostly found with his circle rampant lion and G I.
This mug is most unusual as it is marked with a Jones eagle touch which is found on his later flatware. The touch is “as struck” with the eagle and some stars showing. I personally cannot recall seeing another pint mug from Jones’ Shop marked with a flatware touch. The mug measures 4 5/16” tall to the top of the lip.
His shop produced various sizes of flatware including plates and deep dishes. The shop also produced various sizes of porringers with flower handles.
This mug is in very good plus condition. The touch is “as struck”. It is interesting to note that while soldering the handle on the journeyman doing this got the pewter too warm and caused a weeping of the upper right side of handle by the lip which also caused a divot in the body of the mug.
