A Scarce Rhode Island tab handle porringer by David Melville, Providence Rhode Island 1755-93 utilizing the molds of Thomas Melville.

This porringer is in fine condition save for some light porosity on the interior bottom of the bowl. The exterior is very fine. The handle is struck deeply with Melville’s hallmarks, not commonly used this way. Note that the handle is clearly planished, The back of the bracket has the raised cast initials “TM” for Thomas Melville. As Thomas’ working dates follow David’s this makes one wonder if Thomas didn’t also use David’s touchmarks.
