A Well Marked Edward Danforth Pewter Plate - SOLD
Edward Danforth began his career in Hartford, CT in 1786. He produced a wide variety of pewter including plates dishes basins mugs tankards porringers and one pear-shaped teapot is known by him.
His workmanship was quite excellent and of fine design.
This plate has some minor etching on the face surface the back of the plate is nearly new and boasts two well impressed rampant lion touchmarks as well as as struck hallmarks. The plate measures 7 7/8" in diameter.
It is interesting that Edward never produced an eagle touch in spite of the fact that his career began after the revolution. Perhaps he felt obligated to use the rampant lion as his father had done.
