A Very Fine Boston Pewter Platter - SOLD
This 15 1/16" pewter platter was made using the mold first used by the owner of the Semper Eadam in gateway touch and then by Thomas Badger 1787-1815 in Boston.
The workmanship found on Badger pewter indicates he was very likely trained by the owner of the Semper Eadam in gateway touchmark, due to the strong similarities in metal quality and workmanship.
This dish appears to have been made by either of these two pewterers as the workmanship is of the same high quality.
This dish is in superb condition showing very little wear. This piece would date circa 1770-1815. There is no evidence that this mold saw use after this date. The mold differs from examples by Nathaniel Austin.
The arrows on one of the photos show "chatter marks" caused by vibrations of the turning tool against the surface of the dish.
