A Very Rare Pewter Plate by Jacob Eggleston - SOLD
A very rare 7 7/8” Pewter Plate by Jacob Eggleston, Middletown, Connecticut and Fayetteville, North Carolina 1794-1813. Eggleston was one of the “traveling pewterers”. It is likely that much of his early years were spent in Middletown where he likely trained with Jacob Whitmore. He married Whitmore’s daughter.
In the early 1800’s he purchased property in Fayetteville and he and Daniel Bass, a tinsmith from Berlin Connecticut, offered Tin Plate Working. Pewter and Coppersmith’s Business.
Considered a “Southern Pewterer” examples from this man’s shop are quite scarce. In fact, in the fifty plus years I have been in business this is the very first piece from his shop, I have ever had.
In good condition with some dents on the well of the plate and two very good as struck touches of his oval eagle/name touch. (ON HOLD)
We are only open by appointment. tel (860) 267-2146 Please call between 9:00 AM-8:00 PM EST
