A Near Mint Edward Danforth Pewter Plate - SOLD

A Near Mint Edward Danforth Pewter Plate

Edward Danforth was third son of Thomas Danforth II. Edward was born March 20, 1765. He began his apprenticeship with his father and finished with either or both of his older brothers, Joseph and Thomas III.

Edward retained the use of the lion in his touch which had been used by his father and two older brothers. Thomas III went to the eagle about the time he moved to Philadelphia and Samuel used the eagle at the beginning of his career. Edward established his business in Hartord, CT 1786-1800.

This plate is about as fine as can be found. All of the lathe marks still show on the face and back of the plate. The touches are mint "as struck". The plate measures 7 7/8"+ A fine addition to any collection of Connecticut pewter.
