A Cast Brass Whale Oil Lamp

This brass whale oil lamp is made in a similar manner to the pewter lamps made by the Taunton Britannia Manufacturing Co.

This dates circa 1820-50 and is very nicely constructed. Both the font and shaft are cast in halves and soldered together and lathe finished.

The base is cast and turned on a lathe and the turning marks show clearly on the underside. (VH)
