A Civil War Carbine Sling - SOLD

This sling with "snap hook" was designed to support a cavalry trooper's carbine while riding his horse on on the field. The sling was cross slung over the shoulder and the snap hook clipped on the the saddle ring on the carbine.

This supported the carbine while riding and left the trooper's hands free for controlling his mount.

The vast majority of examples of these had the original brass parts removed to sell as scrap. This example has had the brass parts replaced with reproduction brass, the rivets are the correct brass ones matching original examples. The leather and snap hook are original. This belt is approximately 52 inches.
