A Pewter Revolutionary Period Flask/Canteen - SOLD
During the 18th century few American makers made flasks/canteens. One maker Johann Christopher Heyne, Lancaster, Pennsylvania who worked from 1754-1780 made two different sizes.
This flask/canteen is strikingly similar in size and design to those made by this man, including the form of the screw on cap.
It is purported that Heyne made flasks/canteens for the military during the American Revolution. This flask/canteen is likely of German origin and is supposed to have been found in Pennsylvania. It certainly could have been used either domestically or by a soldier.
Either way this would be a nice addition for a collection of Revolutionary War Period Items. The diameter is 3 5/8". The piece is in "as found" condition.
