This chalice has been in the collection since 1975. It was purchased from Celia Jacobs Stevenson, wife of Carl Jacobs. She had obtained this from a Pennsylvania "picker". This piece was most likely used in a Pennsylvania Church. Likely of German manufacture, this piece exhibits wonderful balance and has a bold appearance in spite of the slender shaft. The knop of the shaft stands out.
Note the "blob" of metal in the center of the underside of the base. This "melting" in method seems to be a typical way shafts were attached to bases in Continental manufacture. The smallish cup is also indicative of the style.
In fine condition measuring 7 3/8" tall with a base diameter of 4 11/16". This piece would date from the mid to late 18th century. (W&P)
