A Fine Quart Export Tulip Mug by John Townsend - SOLD
John Townsend is undoubtedly the most famous of all English pewterers who exported goods to America.
Townsend worked alone from 1748 until 1763. After that date he entered into a series of partnerships. His Son-in-Law was one of his partners. The total amount of the pewter they sent to America is quite amazing. One order with a Philadelphia merchant in the 1760's consisted of over 12,000 pieces of pewter.
This mug is 6 5/16" tall to the lip it is in fine condition with a fine touchmark. (ON HOLD)
