A Fine Quart Export Tulip Mug by John Townsend - SOLD

A Fine Quart Export Tulip Mug by John Townsend

John Townsend is undoubtedly the most famous of all English pewterers who exported goods to America.

Townsend worked alone from 1748 until 1763. After that date he entered into a series of partnerships. His Son-in-Law was one of his partners. The total amount of the pewter they sent to America is quite amazing. One order with a Philadelphia merchant in the 1760's consisted of over 12,000 pieces of pewter.

This mug is 6 5/16" tall to the lip it is in fine condition with a fine touchmark. (ON HOLD)
