A Pair of Export Pewter Plates by Samuel Ellis
Pair of 7 11/16” English Export Pewter Plates by Samuel Ellis of London. Ellis worked from 1721-1765 when he “retired to the Country”. Ellis had a major market to the Colonies particularly New England. He is known for his pear form teapots in various sizes found with and without feet. He also made tulip and taper-sided tankards, mugs in pint and quart sizes both tulip and taper-sided, There are tulip mugs with acanthus leaf decorated handles and also flagons.
Flatware includes plates dishes and basins in a wide variety of sizes both flat rim and single reed edged...
This pair of plates are in fair to good condition with some shallow surface pits.
