An Export Pewter Plate by Compton - SOLD

homas Compton was the son-in-law of John Townsend. Thomas Compton worked with his father-in-law from 1784 until Townsend died in 1801.
This 7 15/16" single reed rim plate is typical of the high quality work done by all of the Townsend group of pewterers. Well struck on the back with typical hammering of the bouge. This plate is in very fine condition with only a few knife marks.
